Details: The native range of the species is from Italy eastward as far as Iran. But it most likely originated east of the Balkans and appears to have arrived in Greece around 1000 BC, where it was able to adapt.
This plane tree stands in the center of a village that made a significant contribution to the Revolution. It was the birthplace of – among others – Fotis (Fotakos) Chrysanthopoulos (1798-1879), the aide-de-camp of Theodoros Kolokotronis, who produced valuable writings on the freedom fighters and events of the Revolution.
